Raziyaneh Strait

Razianeh Strait is one of the spectacular natural phenomena that attracts many tourists with its eye-catching sceneries.

This strait is located in a narrow deep valley in green areas on the way from Ilam to Darrehshahr within the village of Chenar Bashi in the heights of Kabirkuh. Inside this valley, a shallow narrow river, which is surrounded by limestone walls with a height of about 15 to 30 meters, flows; this river originates from Sarab Garou. Earthquake followed by fractures of the thick calcareous layer of the region, erosion and rough surface of the ground are the reasons for the formation of this valley. The great growth of Razianeh (fennel) plant around this area has caused this place to be called Razianeh Strait. Raziyaneh Strait of Ilam covers an area of about 30 hectares, and a maximum width of 5 meters, with the length of its winding route reaching 3 km. The water is more abundant in winter and spring than in summer; in the spring, the display of nomadic tents around the strait doubles its beauty. Razianeh Strait, with its climatic conditions and natural location, is a suitable habitat for migratory birds, indigenous birds, reptiles of the region and animals such as mink, otters, wild goat, goats, jackals, etc. As a pristine and natural attraction, Razianeh Strait is very popular with tourists and nature lovers who travel to Ilam province; in addition, this area is very important for geologists. Razianeh Strait of Ilam was registered in 2009 as a natural monument on the list of national monuments of Iran.
