Kerman Mozaffari Grand Mosque

Kerman Mozaffari Grand Mosque, which is also known as Kerman Grand Mosque or Kabir Mosque, is located in the current city of Kerman and is very old. This mosque is one of the greats of Iranian culture and civilization.

This mosque, which is located on the western part of Shohada Square or Mushtaqieh and at the beginning of Dr. Shariati Street, is about 700 years old and shines like a jewel on the darkness of a land. Mozaffari Grand Mosque of Kerman is attributed to Amir Mobaraz al-Din Mohammad Mozaffari, one of the kings of Muzaffar family. According to historical evidence, this mosque was initially located outside the city of Kerman, but gradually, with the expansion of the city, it has been located within its inner limits. The most valuable part of the building is the mosaic and altar tiles and the east entrance of the mosque. Mozaffari Grand Mosque of Kerman was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran on March 3, 2013 with the number 276. History of Kerman Mozaffari Mosque

Regarding the history of Mozaffari Mosque in Kerman, it has been determined that this building was built in the eighth century in 750 AH. The mosque was built in the eighth century AH in 750 AH by Amir Mobarz al-Din Mohammad Muzaffar Meybodi and for this reason it is known as Mozaffari Mosque. When Mohammad Muzaffar was at risk in the war with the people of Germany and Afghanistan, he vowed if got out of this predicament, he would leave the remnants of his righteousness. The sacrifices and bravery of the hero Ali Bami provided the ground for this and the Al-Muzaffar dynasty right after leaving the battlefield and entered Kerman, and built the mosque. The cost of building this mosque was provided from the income of Mohammad Mozaffar in Meybod and the harvest of horticultural and agricultural products. After the construction of the Mozaffari Grand Mosque in Kerman was completed, Maulana Afifuddin was invited to do prayers in this mosque. According to the inscription that is engraved on the top of the minaret and the finial, Taghi Khan Durrani, the ruler of Kerman in the era of Zandieh, has repaired parts of this mosque in the year 1763. Before this date, during the reign of Shah Abbas II, Shahrokh Nami restored the mosque. In September 1978, the Mozaffari Grand Mosque was set on fire. In general, Kerman Grand Mosque has witnessed several events throughout history, some of which are considered as part of history. For this reason, it has suffered various damages and has been reconstructed many times.

Study of the architecture of Kerman Mozaffari Mosque

The architecture of the Mozaffari Grand Mosque in Kerman and the decorations used in the building, especially in the eastern entrance, are very valuable and noteworthy. Pope, the famous archaeologist, considers this mosque to be one of the greats of Iranian Islam and the background of this land. The mosque is built with a plan of four porches and has a lofty and magnificent entrance, glass, nave, minaret and a very beautiful courtyard. This mosque has three doors on the north, east and west sides. Kerman Mozaffari Mosque has an area of over three thousand meters. The length of the courtyard of the mosque is 66.5 meters and its width is 49 meters. In addition to tiling, Mogharnas of the entrance in the east is also of particular importance. In addition to the eye-catching beauties of the entrance ivy in the east, the stone with plastering cover and small tiles, and the verses that are engraved next to it, another part of the mosaic tiling of the altar should be mentioned, which is located on the west side. In the design of this part, yellow color is used and the edge of the altar is marble, which has created a special glory, especially with the beautiful lines on which it is engraved. In the large porch of the mosque, we come across the name of a person who introduced himself as Enayatullah Ibn Nizamuddin, an Isfahani architect who played a role in the carvings, tiling and repairing this complex.
