Shush museum in Khuzestan

Khuzestan Museum of Shush was built in 1926 in collaboration with the Khuzestan Governor's Office and a delegation of French archaeologists group who had been excavating Susa for 75 years before the museum was built.

This museum garden was built next to the ancient castle of Susa and in front of the tomb of Daniel the Prophet with an area of about thirteen thousand square meters, and in the following years, additions were made to the building. The architect of this structure is Mohsen Foroughi, professor of architecture and head of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran. This museum is one of the richest museums in the world. The objects exhibited in the museum of Susa have been obtained from the excavations of Izeh, the city of Susa, Masjed Soleiman, etc. Due to the weight and size of some of these objects, cranes were used to transport them to the museum. In this museum, some sculptures and antiquities are placed inside glass containers in the courtyard for public viewing. The most vulnerable works are placed inside the building. The objects on display in the museum halls include works from prehistoric times to the Islamic era. Among the important works that are kept in this museum, we can mention the sculptures and capitals discovered from the works of Suleiman Mosque and part of the wall of the Apadana Palace in Susa. Brick inscriptions, pottery and stone coffins, bronze tools, Sassanid plastering, pottery of the early Islamic centuries, Parthian stone carvings, etc. are among the other important objects of the museum. Each of these works has a great impact on understanding the history and art of the region. Shush Museum is one of the important tourist attractions of Khuzestan province that you can easily visit with Persian trips tourism group.
