Hoz-e Soltan salt lake

Hoz-e Soltan Qom salt lake is one of the most important lakes in the central part of Iran, whose size and shape vary according to the amount of rainfall and water inflow in different seasons. When it rains and the snow melts in the surrounding highlands, as the amount of incoming water is increased, the area of the lake increases and in other days, its area decreases. Thus, the water level of the lake is constantly changing.

Some experts have considered this phenomenon as a wetland and to the extent that its name can be seen in the list of five wetlands in Qom province that has been approved by the Ramsar International Convention. The salt lake of Hoz-e Sultan in Qom is also known as the natural mirror of Iran. In the rainy seasons, this lake with its polished surface becomes a kind of natural mirror and brings its beauty to the highest level. Any crystalline surface of salt that is polished can reflect light. The wider it is, the easier it is to reflect light, and since this lake has a smooth and transparent surface like a mirror, it is known as the natural mirror of Iran.

Access and geographical location of the salt lake of Hoz-e Sultan in Qom

Hoz-e Soltan salt lake in Qom province with an area of about 240 square kilometers is located in the south of Alborz mountains, 40 kilometers north of Qom city and 85 kilometers south of Tehran and on the side of the Persian Gulf highway. Salt Lake was established in 1883 as a result of the construction of the Tehran-Qom highway. The embankment road inside the lake is used to exploit the lake salt and prevent cars from sinking into the swamp. The salt lake of Hoz-e Soltan Qom, which is also known as Shahi Lake and Saveh Lake in Qom, is composed of two separate holes. The western hole is called Hoz-e Sultan and the eastern hole is called Hoz-e Marah, which are connected by a waterway.
In the seasons when the water of the region is high, first Mareh hole is filled and then the excess water enters Hoz-e Soltan. Hoz-e Soltan is located at an altitude of 806 meters above sea level, which is normally fed by surface running water. In addition to these running waters, Marah Hoz also originates from several other rivers that enter the lake and generally pass through the surrounding saline and saline lands, such as the shoor and Qarachai rivers. The geographical location of the salt lake of Hoz Sultan Qom and its environmental conditions have caused various animals, including pigeons and migratory birds such as gray geese, storks, storks and eagles, as well as mammals such as foxes, rats, rabbits and ... live in this area.
