Abarkooh Ancient Cypress Tree

Abarkooh Ancient Cypress Tree, which is the oldest tree or the oldest living creature in our country, is attributed to 4500 years in its registration document, but a Russian researcher who researches long-lived trees claims that the Abarkooh cypress tree is between 4000 and 8000 years old.

A Japanese researcher has predicted its age to be between 4,000 and 7,000 years. The age of this ancient tree and its stability in the central plateau of Iran, which has always had a dry and fragile climate, has led different generations to quote and remember the creation and expression of legends, stories and narratives about this tree and how it was planted.

Abarkooh City

Abarkooh city is one of the oldest cities in Yazd province, which is located in the heart of the central desert of Iran and in the golden triangle of tourism in the country. At present, many historical and natural monuments of the past are left in Abarkooh city, which indicates the existence of a memorable historical and ancient civilization. Cypress Abarkooh (Abarghoo) is one of the spectacular and attractive attractions of Abarkooh city. This tree with its intricate trunks and evergreen and lush leaves promises life to its visitors. When you are visiting the Abarkooh cypress, you should walk around it for a few minutes and be silent for a while to hear the stories of several thousand years from its own language.
The Abarkooh cypress tree, which is known as the oldest living creature in the world, is one of the wonders of the creation of the universe. Of course, regardless of the sanctification of this tree in the sense these narrations claim that its planting is attributed to some prophets or descendants of prophets, which has led to an increase in its historical value among people and tourists, so that every year many tourists go to Abarkooh to see this ancient tree.
This ancient and very old tree, which was known as the second oldest tree in the world until 2012 is currently one of the 10 oldest trees in the world, and one of the first registered in the list of natural monuments of our country, which is waiting for UNESCO to submit and accept its global registration file these days.
The global registration file of Abarkooh cypress is to be prepared in the form of the file of long-lived trees of Iran for global registration, but this is while the position of this ancient cypress in terms of age and background not only in Iran and in comparison with other long-lived trees in this registration file, but also in the world is so greater. The registration of this tree as one of old trees in Iran in a general file will underestimate the real value of the oldest living thing in our country.
Zarathustra is one of the prophets to whom the planting of the Abarkooh cypress tree is attributed. Based on the evidence and historical information received and the belief of some experts, this can not be true because based on the historical texts Zarathustra has planted a cypress tree around 2740 years ago in Kashmir, after which the name of the city was changed to Kajmar, Keshmir, Kashmar and finally Kashmir. Of course, according to the chronicles, the order to cut this tree was issued during the Umayyad caliphs, but as soon as the tree was cut down. , The ruler of this land dies, which makes people know this issue by cutting the sacred cypress of Kashmir.
This cypress tree is sometimes confused with the Abarkooh cypress tree, while the difference in age between the two creatures, taking into account the dates predicted by experts in the world's long-lived trees, is estimated to be about 4,000 to 6,500 years, so this cypress tree can not be attributed to Zoroastrian's planted tree.

The history of Abarkooh Cypress

Based on the age mentioned by some experts, the date of Abarkooh Cypress has attributed to the beginning of the agricultural era, ie between 7,000 and 12,000 years ago, which coincided with the time of the life of Adam (AS), but this possibility also exists that the tree was not planted at the beginning of this era.
In this regard, there are legends that Abel and Cain, the sons of Adam (PBUH), each chose two commodities, one sheep and the other wheat. Wheat was a symbol of agricultural life and sheep was a symbol of shepherding life, and accordingly some believe that this tree was planted by the children of this prophet.
However, some experts, due to the age of this tree, attribute the planting of the cypress tree to the children of Prophet Noah (pbuh), which is more likely to be true than other cases. According to the information written in the book "The Companions of Ras" by "Habibullah Fazaeli" is available, it is quoted; "The sons of Prophet Noah (pbuh), including Ham, Sam and Japheth, each ruled a part of the world. "According to historical narrations, Japheth, who is known as the father of Persian kings, planted Abarkooh cypress tree."
