Gonbad-e Ali in Abarkuh

Abarkuh Gonbad-e Ali's building or Ali Dome is one of the healthiest buildings of the Seljuk period and one of the most valuable [Mehrazi] art in Iran.

Abarkuh Gonbad Ali mansion belongs to the Dilmian era and this thousand-year-old building is a tomb on a mountain in Abarkooh and is the first registered building in Yazd province.
The structure of the building is made of stone and mortar (plaster of lime and ashes or sand,) and octagonal, which is made on a rectangular base whose corners are sloping. The shape of the dome in the ciborium part is like a hemisphere. It is 12 meters high and 2 meters above the ground.
On the body of the building, there are 3 ridges hanging under the base of the dome and two stones inscribed with Kufic calligraphy. This tomb was the grave of Amir Shams al-Dawla Ali Hezar Asb from the Dilmian family and his mother, which was built by the order of his son Firoozan in 448 Mahshidi (lunar).
The High Dome of Abarkuh was registereds in the list of national monuments of Iran in 1958. The great dome of Abarkuh city is one of the stone buildings of the Dilmian period and belongs to the year 448 AH and is an example of Iranian architecture that is located on a hill on the way from Abarkuh to Bahman.

This massive building of the Gonbad-e Ali is one of the strongest buildings of the fifth century AH. The tomb, which is one of the most interesting examples of architecture of its kind, is built in the form of an octagon of stone and mortar and the dome is located on top of it. Its base is octagonal, its smaller sides are 4.5 meters, its larger sides are 6.8 meters, and the side between the two is 2.3 meters. At the entrance of the dome, there is an inscription in Kufic script, the letters of which are carved with bricks and placed inside the text of the inscription.
Inside the dome, a large crypt can be seen, the entrance of which is also inside the dome. The most interesting work of the tomb can be a beautiful brick inscription at the entrance of the dome on which the contents are engraved. Inside the tomb, there is a crypt whose entrance is located in front of the entrance of the dome.

The building materials of the Gonbad-e Ali

The building materials of the Gonbad-e Ali are natural mountain stones and mortar, which are built on the natural rocks of the mountain, and for this reason, despite the successive earthquakes in the region, not the slightest disruption has occurred in its pillars. There is also an entrance on the north side of the dome that leads to the crypt below the tomb. In this building, there are three rows of Mogharnas under the base of the dome and two strings of inscriptions in Kufic script of a prominent brick building, one under the Mogharnas and the other above the entrance. Above the entrance is a brick inscription with "Banaie" handwriting on which sentences are engraved. The high dome of Abarkuh is the tomb of Amid al-Din Shams al-Dowleh, the grandson of Nasr ibn Hassan ibn Firuzan Deilami, who was appointed to rule Abarkuh during the Seljuk dynasty. In terms of design, the building is similar to the buildings of the third and fourth centuries AH. 350 historical monuments have been identified in the ancient city of Abarkuh, of which 112 have been registered in the list of national monuments.
