Chalabi Oghlou historical complex

Chalabi Oghlou historical complex is a historical building related to the eighth century AH, which is located in the southwest of Soltanieh city in Zanjan province. This complex is located about five hundred meters from the dome of Soltanieh.

There are differences of opinion about the name, date of construction and even the identity of the person buried in this tomb. Some consider it the tomb of Aref Chalabi, the grandson of Maulana Jalaluddin. Some scholars, citing the inscription on the south porch of the monastery, consider the tomb to belong to a person named Baraq Baba or Sheikh Baraq. For this reason, the historical collection of Chalabi Oghlou is also known as the collection of Sheikh Baraq. Different opinions have been presented about the time of construction of the tomb and the monastery. The only date written on the building is 733, which is recorded in the inscription of the endowment of the southwest porch of the monastery.

Some experts attribute this date to the date of construction of the building. Others believe that the mentioned date is related to the time of writing the inscription and the monastery was built before that. The historical tomb of Chalabi Oghli, number 167, has been registered in the list of national monuments of Iran and has been restored several times so far. This building was converted into a guest house between 1379 and 1384 with renovation.

Introduction of Chalabi Oghlou historical Complex

The main materials of Chalabi Oghlou monument are carcasses of stone and mortar. This complex has a rectangular plan, which is located on the northern side of the monastery. The monastery had a central courtyard that was probably used for the Sama ceremony ( a kind of dance attributed to Sufi). On the south side, tower-shaped tombs are built in the middle of a square courtyard. The historical tomb of Chalabi Oghlou is octagonal and made of bricks. The height of the tomb is about 18 meters and it has a dome with a relatively long stem. The exterior of the dome is without coverings and decorations. In the northern part, the entrance of the building is located. To the south, there is a porch in the direction of the qibla. The floor of the porch is furnished with marble trench and there is an altar decorated with its bedding inside. There are two halls on either side of the porch that were probably used as an angle. The rooms of the students are located in two floors with a porch in the eastern and western parts of the courtyard. To the northwest of the monastery are buildings that may have been kitchens and baths. During the reconstruction of the Chalabi Oghlou historical complex, traces of a crypt and a large number of graves were discovered. This issue has caused some researchers to consider this area, which is one of the famous attractions of Zanjan province, as a kind of family tomb.
