Who is Khayyam?

Hakim Omar Khayyam, mathematician, poet (known for his quatrains), astronomer, philosopher, physicist, chemist, philosopher, biologist, mystic, writer, and in one word, a great Iranian omniscient, who lived in 11th and 12th  centuries AD.He founded the most accurate calendar in the world, the Jalali calendar. His works and scientific achievements are so many that it is not possible to introduce all of them in one or two pages. This unique scientist of the world finally passed away in 1131 AD in the city of Neyshabur (where he was born).

History of Mausoleum of Khayyam:

The place where Khayyam was buried was one of the big gardens of the city of Neyshabur. Until modern times, no mausoleum was built on his grave.During the reign of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi (1963 AD), the most famous contemporary architect of Iran, Mr. Hooshang Seyhoun, who also designed and built the Tomb of Nader Shah, Tomb of Ferdowsi, Tomb of Avicenna and the Mausoleum of Kamal-ol-Molk, decided to build a structure on Khayyam's grave. This building, whose special and unique features will be introduced in the next section, is today the symbol of Neyshabur city and one of the tourism hubs of eastern Iran.

What do you know about the architecture of Khayyam's Mausoleum?

The most important point of this building is its modern style. The architect designed this building using the integration element which includes the combination of elements of Khayyam's thought. Although some people are against the elegance and expression of Khayyam's thoughts in the design of the building. The building is 20 meters high and consists of 10 large rhombic walls that meet at the top. The building looks like a blooming flower from above. Interestingly, there are 10 small tent-shaped structures around the building, which introduce the occupation of Khayyam's father (tent maker) to tourists. In every 10 tents, there are small ponds that cool the area around the tomb. One of the most important points of this building is the strict and comprehensive observance of symmetry in all parts of the structure. Symmetry that will surely dazzle your eyes. To reach Khayyam's tombstone, you have to go down some short steps.

A few points should also be mentioned regarding coloring, materials used, and patterns; The main structure is made of metal and the exterior is made of concrete. The walls are full of different geometric shapes and Khayyam's poems. The inner space of the rhombuses is turquoise blue and all of them have Islamic motifs, flowers and leaves.Leaving aside the building itself, the garden in which the tomb is located has an area of more than 2 hectares and the Mausoleum of Kamal-ol-Molk, a famous contemporary painter of Iran, is also located there.Mausoleum of Khayyam should only be seen and enjoyed. nothing else!!!
